School, what else?

Before I start apologizing profusely for my lack of commitment to blogging, let me just say to the students out there, good luck with school. They say IB Year 2 is hell on earth. So far it’s been pretty much cruising along. We had a few hectic deadlines (Extended Essay Draft Two, Self-Directed Studies, Planning Labs) and one test, for Math Higher Level.

It had one damn question on it.

Worth 30 or so marks.

Teacher gave us 8 minutes. Ready, set, go.

I made a mistake in the fourth step and screwed up everything after it. What’s sad is that I did SIMPLE INTEGRATION wrong! I got all the hard part with the separable and exact first order linear differential equations (this is calculus, for those who got lost at “integration”). //End Rant. Pfft, pulling a semi-lucid semi-nighter was so not worth it (I had my alarm going off every hour in case I fell asleep, which I did)

Julius Caesar

Today we went to see Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar performed at Bard on the Beach - internationally acclaimed professional summer Shakespeare Theatre Festival under the tents in Vanier Park, Vancouver - which we were studying in class. I prefer Shakespeare’s more comedic plays, namely Measure for Measure, which Bard had last year. JC is basically a long string of debates employing logos, pathos, and ethos. Have you guys read it?

Throughout the whole play, I gave the two people sitting next to me a continuous comment on how the actors’ costumes were similar to that of Harry Potter. Brutus has a very funky black cloak much like that of Severus Snape (Ugh, parallel structures… the result of long and strenous SAT practice sets. Who else is taking it in October? Join the stress club!) At the end of the play one of my friends went into a squealing fit because the actor who played Metellus Cimber or something looked like Elliot Stabler on Law and Order Special Victims Unit.

Countdown to IB Retreat: 5 days
Countdown to TOK Essay Draft C: 12 days
Countdown to SATS: 15 days
Countdown to my birthday: -______________- over a month

Sweetest thing someone said to me today: Why do you live so far? But the distance you are away is directly proportional to how much I miss you.

Awwwwww!

One Week In

I can’t even count the deadlines I have written in my agenda after three full days of school. It’s true what they say about Year II IB, “the work’s never done”. I’m currently slaving over my four thousand word Extended Essay (EE). Lovely, having a massive project due like that in the second week of school.

Day 1
Block A - IB Theory of Knowledge 12
Teacher is also my EE supervisor =O

Block B - IB French 12 Standard Level
Teacher way too happy for an IB population

Block C - Nap/Spare/Quality time with fellow suffering peers block
ZZZzzZZZzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz

Block D - IB Physics 12 Higher Level
Teacher former IB grad, at least he knows the pains

Day 2
Block E - IB English 12 Higher Level
Teacher is a Harry Potter fan, nicest and sweetest old lady ever

Block F - IB History 12 Standard Level
Teacher seems passionate about the subject, yay!

Block G - Evil IB Math 12 Higher Level
Principal Moderator for North America, this is my third year with him

Block H - IB Chemistry 12 Standard Level
Teacher seems TOO nice and TOO easy, didnt think that was possible

I feel like I’m about to take the N.E.W.Ts or something, with teachers constantly reminding us of IB Exams coming in May (they’ll be here before you know it!) Information about Paper 1, Paper 2, Internal Assessments, Planning Labs, External Assesments are killing my brain cells.

Okay, five minute break’s over. Back to the dungeon I call Extended Essay writing on a particulary fine Sunday Morning.
