Destruction, Death, Survival, Love

Yes, I know it’s physically impossible to have Wordless Wednesday and Music Monday categories on the same day (which ironically enough is NEITHER of those days…), my categories need fixing.

The beginning of this week were official days of mourning in China. Imagine the nation standing still with only foghorns, car horns, and sirens in the background for three minutes. That’s what happened at 2:28 PM Monday. I’m just touched by the humanity of it all - newspapers and websites donning a coat of grey and black in mourning, journalists breaking down in tears in the middle of live reports, the leaders going to the front line, children’s bodies found with pens in hand as they had no time to react, clocks stuck at 2:28, a man saying “thank you everyone” when he was lifted out of the rubbles after three days, only to pass away minutes after.

In Beijing, after the three minutes of silence, people erupted into cheers that haven’t been heard in Tiananmen Square in… ever (video)? I find that Chinese people don’t usually go out and cheer for something they love, especially their country, so this is rare and historic indeed!

I guess the pictures can speak for themselves.

Beichuan Secondary School, taken a day before the earthquake at a seniors event. Two thirds of the people in that school would not be alive the next day.

Newspaper covers collected in a collage, the giant words mean “Mourning” (source)

Migration - a couple carrying everything they owned to move to a new place.

Rest in peace.

Oh god.

The song this week is DHT’s Listen to Your Heart, dedicated to everyone one out there who’s facing love heartaches and is lost and confused.

Now, moving on to something more, cheerful (right…)! For high school seniors, March is known as Waiting Month. Twelve years of public education boils down to that single moment with a mouse click. Would it be tissues filled with tears of sorrow, or elegant glasses filled with champagne of joy? Only a handful of people in the world know my fate. So, dear readers, how good are you with colours? Whoever figures out the most school colours below gets an awesome link in my sidebar and a place in my RSS (because seriously, if you can figure it out, then YOU should be going to the universities I applied to). Here’s a hint: 2 Canadians on top, 8 US ones below. Their websites are your friend =D

They’re getting less and less creative with colours. Ready? Set? Go! And don’t mix up your blues.

Apologize, by Timbaland Feat. OneRepublic. I think I listened to this WAY too many times.

I’m up brightly and early at 5:00 am again, this time finishing the last Theory of Knowledge essay that I would ever have to write. The topic?

“… we will always learn more about human life and personality from novels than from scientific psychology” (Noam Chomsky). To what extent do you agree?

I felt it was one of my weaker essays that I rushed to finish in one day. My last one, on the topic Do language play equal roles in different areas of knowledge? got me a high mark, but I can’t submit it for official marking to IB because turnitin.com didn’t process the essay in time :ouch:

It might seem as if I’ve crawled into a hole and stopped blogging, but it’s not true! I’m just splitting my attention between two blogs that’s all.

I haven’t done Music Monday for a while so I thought I’d upload one of the songs that I got really addicted to after watching So You Think You Can Dance. It’s not my usually mainstream pop style, but what the heck!

A happy december to everyone! Vancouver got its snowstorm! And like any snowstorm here, it was all gone after a whole night of rain yesterday, pfft.

Musical MSN Convo

// October 7th, 2007 // 6 Comments » // Music Monday, Online Experience, Personal, QOTW

I guess this is pretty self-explanatory. I just stringed all our clips together to one video… no visuals unfortunately, just listen to the lyrics (sorry it wasn’t working before… it’s now on VEOH from the prying eyes of RL people).

That convo left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside last night.

Monday’s rolling around very quickly. This week, I have Give Back the Love by Philosopher Kings for Music Monday. I heard it on the radio the other day and quickly got the song, been listening to it on repeat ever since.

At the end of my usual enlightening MSN discussions about HP with one of my friends, he casually asked me what I thought his Patronus should be. For some reason “otter” just came to mind and I told him.

Me: So what do you think my Patronus will be?
Him: Hmm… let me think… A HUMMINGBIRD!
Me: o__O Thanks. I’m sure the Dementors will be terrified of it, if they can SEE it -.-
Him: Do u want to know WHY i picked a hummingbird?
Me: Why’s that?
Him: Because, firstly, it is a very sociable creature. It flies all around very quickly from flower to flower serving a very necessary task.
Me:
Him: Secondly, although at first glance it seems small and needs protection, one will find that it is more than capable of holding its own in tough times. And lastly, it inspires beauty with its flight which is performs with graceful ease, naturally.
Me: … Wow. Th..thanks.

Sometimes I don’t feel I deserve the friends I have, but nonetheless, I love them to pieces!
