One Week In
Posted on September 9th, 2007 in QOTW, School/IB Program |
I can’t even count the deadlines I have written in my agenda after three full days of school. It’s true what they say about Year II IB, “the work’s never done”. I’m currently slaving over my four thousand word Extended Essay (EE). Lovely, having a massive project due like that in the second week of school.
Day 1
Block A - IB Theory of Knowledge 12
Teacher is also my EE supervisor =O
Block B - IB French 12 Standard Level
Teacher way too happy for an IB population
Block C - Nap/Spare/Quality time with fellow suffering peers block
ZZZzzZZZzzzZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz
Block D - IB Physics 12 Higher Level
Teacher former IB grad, at least he knows the pains
Day 2
Block E - IB English 12 Higher Level
Teacher is a Harry Potter fan, nicest and sweetest old lady ever
Block F - IB History 12 Standard Level
Teacher seems passionate about the subject, yay!
Block G - Evil IB Math 12 Higher Level
Principal Moderator for North America, this is my third year with him
Block H - IB Chemistry 12 Standard Level
Teacher seems TOO nice and TOO easy, didnt think that was possible
I feel like I’m about to take the N.E.W.Ts or something, with teachers constantly reminding us of IB Exams coming in May (they’ll be here before you know it!) Information about Paper 1, Paper 2, Internal Assessments, Planning Labs, External Assesments are killing my brain cells.
Okay, five minute break’s over. Back to the dungeon I call Extended Essay writing on a particulary fine Sunday Morning.

Ooo…school’s a pain. I know how it feels–I got quite a few assignments on my plate as well. I’m realizing how stupid it was to not have finished what I could have finished all over the summer. There really is no time at all once school begins!
Kudos on taking Physics and Chemistry in the same year though. I wouldn’t be able to do that–I had enough trouble with Physics as it is (although, I can’t say that I really liked the class too much)
Lol, sounds like a fun time! What’s your EE on?
How horrendous.
I think school’s meant to give us hell.
I’m in art college, so everything is project based.
I’ve got Research and Communications Studies this year too. 2 hellish essays, a bunch of group work (with a shitty group leader).
All on top of 6 other modules. Wonderful.
Projects all due this week too. Good luck to me innit!
Good luck with your essay and all the other subjects!
Haha, I’ve already had 2 weeks of school. And it’s really busy, especially since I have volleyball practice everyday.
Good luck with all those assignments! I’m glad I’m not in IB. Some of my friends are, and they have a lot of work :dead:
Four thousand words will be rather painful I can imagine, sorry that you have so much work to do

But haha at the NEWTs remark, i share the feeling
Oh gosh. I definitely feel your pain. I took Chemistry and Physics in the same year; a year’s work in physics in a semester, and a year’s work in chemistry in another. It was painful. And that wasn’t even IB-level science (!).
Bwahaha. I was thinking the exact same thing with the N.E.W.T.s. Slightly on-topic: My IB Coordinator reminds me of Prof. McGonagall.
My French teach is way too happy as well. Is it a French teacher thing? I’ve never met a French teacher who wasn’t peppy.
Ah the Evil Essay. Lacking as I am in good advise…good luck on that. And don’t drink too much caffeine (or you’ll crash!).
*blinks* I now understand how tortuous IB can really be. Good luck with that. Fortunately I’m only taking certificate, not diploma so I don’t have to do the essay. Good luck on it and everything IB-wise
Let’s cry together. I have HIST402W, which is the most writing intensive class I have ever taken. All I want is my bachelor degree! Just give it to me!
o___o Woah. Luckily, I have a bit before I do all that! Phew. Those evil essays! Good luck with it all.
I have no horror stories … I have had lots of breaks with nothing to do in them, but I suppose that is better than being worked to the bone.
Essays suck, not as much as exams though :p
it is sad to know that after three days of school you will have no life. I feel for you. Good luck this year!
Yah, she applied to it early and she got in, so she didn’t apply to any other schools (but she has a bigger resume than me :stress:). She doesn’t know what concentration she’s going into yet–she just took her placement exams.
Wow, that really sucks. I hate teachers that are like that. My AP Psych teacher is. I seriously think this is going to be a long year with her, argh! Oh well. Hmm…chem and physics in the same year? You must like science, heh. Anyways, good luck and take care!
Btw, I love these smilies, heh.
Yeah, school is getting crazy.
Good luck.
Horrifying! Now I’m hesitant about going to 2nd year hehe. xD
I was about to ask how you managed to convince your school to let you take all those IB classes, then I realised you have block scheduling. We have no such thing at my school. Same schedule. Every day. *cries*
