Too Much Leg

// February 17th, 2009 // 17 Comments » // Fashion, QOTW

It’s New York Fashion Week! And I’m at home doing absolutely nothing… sleeping as if I’m in a different time zone.

Legs, Dresses, Camwhoring

What did I learn from these camwhore sessions?

  • The FLASH is a very good solution when one is too lazy to put on makeup, no face dear readers XD
  • Need better camera and mirror and/or a BOY to take my pics ;) … kidding!
  • Too in love with a single pair of patent heels
  • When I rearrange my office or get my room back I’ll have a better backdrop
  • Oh and these have are accumulated from the past few months, not like I spent a whole day changing outfits, pfft.

QOTW: What’s your favourite piece of clothing in your closet?

One Point for Materialism

// December 25th, 2008 // 17 Comments » // Fashion, Personal, Quotables

I logged into WP today and lo and behold, a new dashboard theme! Thank you Lene for kindly upgrading WP so diligently. Yes, it’s Christmas Break so that means I finally have time to blog (or not - the chocolates and wine are calling my name!) To the outside world my life is pretty mundane at the moment, i.e. no new obsessions, no materialistic acquisitions, no romances (boys just aren’t interested, alas). But I do love the daily nuances that pop up in my life. For example:

Mum: Hey what exactly does “XD” mean?
Me: It’s face mother. You have to look at it sideways.
Mum: I don’t get it.
Me: Come here *types out XD*, see? The D is the mouth and the X are the eyes like this: ><
Mum: That’s stupid. I still don’t get it. What does LOL mean?
Me: *headdesk*

Mind you this was right after a Facebook conversation I had with my dad.

Dad: Why can’t I see the snowman photo I just took of you Crystal? On Facebook?
Me: Oh I don’t know, you’re on my limited profile?!
Dad: WHY? WHY DID YOU BLOCK ME? MY OWN DAUGHTER. WHY?!
Me: Uh…kidding *shifty eyes* … maybe you’re not logged in probably… *quickly changes privacy setting for one album* … refresh it now…
Dad: OH OKAY I see it!

They tried to get me to teach my grandma how to use the internet. I passed. I can’t decide whether or not my parents are “at-least-better-than-most-parents-who-fail-at-computer” or just complete lunatics from whom I inherited my DNA. I still proudly announce to all my friends that not one but BOTH of my parents have Facebook lol. Watch out everyone. In a few years I’ll be trying to convince my grandkids to let me reprogram their hovercrafts.

In other news, I finally got down to decorate one of the bare walls in my bedroom. Why should I miss out the whole decorate your dorm wall thing even if I live at home?! Behold, les photos.

BEFORE. Oh dreary white walls!

Olympics Fever

// August 4th, 2008 // 20 Comments » // Fashion, Quotables

Countdown to Beijing Olympics 2008: 4 days.

My family’s favourite pasttime is gathering in front of the television to spend “quality time” with each other. So when the Olympics roll around every four years, it’s a huge deal for my folks in the entertainment department. For anyone who hasn’t seen the dress rehearsal fireworks pictures from Beijing’s Bird’s Nest, I recommend you to check it out right away. It totally DWARVES what went down in Vancouver last weekend (HSBC Celebration of Lights).

In the last issue of Harper’s Bazaar, Lucy Liu made several appearances in Spring Couture 2008 clothes posing for Olympics events (photo credits). It totally adds that extra pizazz and glamour the Games need! Observe.

Lucy Liu in Armani (track and field)
Eye-catching red dress from the Armani Prive spring collection.

Lucy Liu in Chanel

Lucy Liu in Carolina Herrera (Archery)
This archery one in Carolina Herrera is my favorite of the set.

Lucy Liu in Christian Dior (Boxing)

Lucy Liu in Dolce and Gabbana (Track and Field)

Where can I get this Dolce and Gabanna bag?!

Lucy Liu in Jean Paul Gaultier (Weightlifting)

Haha I know all of you jock types are totally frowning upon replacing weights with Jean Paul Gaultier bags.

Lucy Liu in Alexander McQueen (Sprint)

Lucy Liu in Givenchy (gymnastics)

Lucy Liu in Versace (balance beam)

Hmm… this Versace gown may have looked better on the runway.

Lucy Liu in Christian Lacroix (Metals)
So patriotic eh?

And this is my parting thought for this fashion-filled entry:

Karl Legerfield Ad

The popular creative director of Chanel and Fendi, Karl Legerfield, has been asked by road safety chiefs in France to front their latest campaign, encouraging drivers to wear light-reflecting clothing when traveling at night. The translation, “It’s yellow. It’s ugly. It doesn’t go with anything, but it could save your life.

P.S. - finally updated the Links in the sidebar with Sarai, Shen-Shen, Alex, Rilla and a few other blogs that I read.

Why Use Firefox?

// April 11th, 2008 // 34 Comments » // Wordless Wednesday

Because it’s written in the stars!

Man, Mozilla is really missing out not hiring me as their catchy-business-slogan-maker. Btw, aren’t you glad this isn’t one of those “top reasons for blah blah blah” self-help/productivity/completely-devoid-of-creativity entries mentioned in Sarai’s enlightening article?

Firefox in Space

The one on the left is a photograph taken by the Hubble space telescope on December 17, 2002, featuring the variable star V838 Monocerotis (source). It’s just rotated and the tail of the fox is slightly doctored.

IE FAILS. GO FF (for some reason when I reread this I saw “IE FAILS, Go F*** OFF haha). TGIF & Happy Weekends! My category choice also fails. Oh well.

CRAM CRAM CRAM

// January 17th, 2008 // 11 Comments » // Academic, Quotables, World for the Week

Ah, so the dreaded IB Mock Exam season is upon us. So are the English Oral Exams. So are a bizallion other things. A lot of people are going out of their minds right now walking around dazed holding a thick package of Yeats poems in one hand, and Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar in the other. Basically, the Oral Exam is a mandatory External Assessment. We’re given 18 poems (Yeats and Heaney), 1 novel (Mrs. Dalloway by Virginia Woolf), 1 memoir (Running in the Family by Michael Ondaatje) and 1 play (Julius Caesar, choices depend on the school). During the exam, we randomly draw a 30-50 line package from the available 80 or so choices, get 20 minutes to prepare notes, and then have 15 minutes to analyze the passage and answer questions. Everything is taped on a cassette and sent to the IB Headquarters in Switzerland. Since I’m in Higher Level English, we’re expected to do about 200% more than the Standard Level people in terms of materials to be covered and depth of analysis. What a pain in the ass. I’m presenting tomorrow at 2:50 pm. DON’T GIVE ME JULIUS CAESAR OR ONE OF HEANEY’S OBSCURE POEMS. THANK YOU.

Has anyone seen the new Macbook Air? I don’t care about its functions and whatnot since I rarely buy Apple products, but look-wise, it’s stunning.

And isn’t the slipcover just adorable?

Haha yes, I’m all into the aesthetics and design!

Here’s how my next few weeks look.
Fri. Jan 18 - English Orals, Physics Test, 2 Labs Due, French Performance
Sun. Jan 20 - Youth Parliament Cabinet Meeting
Mon. Jan 21 - History Paper 1 Due
Wed. Jan 23 - Math HL Test on Solids of Revolution (Calculus)
Fri. Jan 25 - NO SCHOOL, STUDY!!
Mon. Jan 28 - University Alumni Interview AHH!
Tue. Jan 29 - Math HL Mock Exam, History SL Mock Exam
Wed. Jan 30 - English HL Mock Exam, French SL Mock Exam
Thur. Jan 31 - Chemistry SL Mock Exam
Fri. Feb 1 - Physics HL Mock Exam, Math Portfolio Assignment (Wow, in one week, about 80% of our term mark is decided!)

Surprisingly I haven’t been over-the-top stressed. Other stressed people are keeping me sane. And to finish off with a quotation…

Math HL Teacher: —–, you’re sleeping in my class again. Did your girlfriend keep you up last night?! *roars of laughter*
Student: *quietly to self* No, I was having a Menage A Trois with Yeats, Mrs. Dalloway, and Julius Caesar.

Ahh… gotta love math class!
