I know all of you avid readers out there are patting yourselves on your backs for record-breaking numbers on those Book Reading challenges in 2007. Well, here, then is a real challenge for you, one I will take part with you. So, read the guidelines from below, grab a button, and dash to the bookstore/library!
Guidelines
- Your book may be fiction (eg. Lord of the Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien) or non-fiction (A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking) in any language
- Comic books and magazines do not count
- Maximum 3 books by the same author. Variety is awesome.
- Rereads should be from at least two years ago, or just something you don’t clearly recall. It’s really up to your judgment - Thanks Ramsha!
- Books are tallied by completion dates. If you start it in 2007 but finish it in 2008, it will count - Thanks Alex!
- Have a website/blog where you can create a page to keep track of your books, for example. You can include additional information if you want.
- Don’t think you can finish? Doesn’t matter, it always helps to get started!
- Leave a comment below and I’ll add you to the list
- Contact me for any inquiries/info change
- Bonus: I will be checking your pages regularly and updating the rankings. Those who make it to the finish and/or half-way mark will receive an optional book/reader interview, to be posted as an entry on my blog!

You can count me in!
Ohh, interesting. I’ll join. I’ve already made the page under my about me page.
What about re-reads? Do those count?
@ Ramsha - Because I want you guys to explore new selections, rereads from the last two years do not count, unless you really have no idea what the plot was about. So use your judgment, and it never hurts to pick up an old time classic.
Oh, I would really love to join, but I seriously don’t know if I would be able to achieve that. And to think that when I was younger, if I saw something like this challenge, I would be like, “Pshhh…I can do that!” Now, I’m only, “I’ll consider it.”
Also, funny how just yesterday, I started and finished Frankenstein, but it wouldn’t count for this since it was yesterday in 2007.
But definitely great initiative on your part!
@ Yingna - Oh it doesn’t hurt to give it a go! For me personally, it makes getting through those assigned readings in class that much easier. I think Frankenstein was a sign for you, that 2008 will be a great reading year
I’ll definitely try to do this one. Count me in
Count me in! I’ll probably set up my page under Books section.
Ahhh! I would love to do this, but I know I won’t get around to reading much this year (except for textbooks). Kudos to starting this challenge, though, and best of luck to everybody participating!
Hey, Crystal.. that book, Mrs. Dalloway, takes place all in the same day? How long is it? I’m curious!
Yay for all the participating, keep it up!
@ Anne - On the Oxford Classic version, it’s about 165 pages with tight font. It’s stream of conscious narration so it’s really really dense, but after reading almost a quarter of it yesterday, I started to view life … slightly differently i guess. If you’re into a bit of heavy reading, I definitely recommend it.
Whoo, count me in!
One of my New Year’s resolutions (that I had to write in AP Psych) was to finish all the books I’ve left half-finished. So this will definitely help motivate me.
I’m in.
Question: Do books we’re reading for school count, too?
Count me in

Brilliant idea. Count me in!
I would positively love to do this, but I don’t want to commit unless I plan for it first…so I’ll get back to you.
I’m late, but I’m in. I’ve read a few great books so far this year. I’m making my blog page now. =] Add me to the list, please.

Hi! I’d like to join in the challenge! But I’m no livejournal, is it possible?
Crystal, I changed my permalinks and now my books page is
http://silencios.org/aboutme/28-books-in-2008/
Just in case you wonder why link here leads to a 404.
Is it too late to join?
Count me in if it isn’t.
I’d like to join (I read books very quickly so I’ll catch up)! I’ll e-mail you the url of my reading list.
Just one question: What about books we’ve already read this year? Do those count, or do I have to start counting from today?
Okay then. I’m in.
This sound very interesting, I’d love to join! I’ll put the button up right now.
I’m in on the challenge. Do IB required books count? Because if so, then I’ve got two down, those being “The Glass Menagerie” by Tennessee Williams and “Emperor Jones” by Eugene O’Neill.
Anyone any suggestions for books?
Quite last minute, but… count me in?
http://freefall.viibrato.org/austin/28-books-in-2008/

@Grace - Sure, as long as its publicly accessible!
@Lene - Oops, must’ve missed that in the last link check, it’s been updated!
@Pip - They count (how fortunate!) Try Oryx and Crake by Margaret Atwood!
@Austin and others - welcome aboard!
Hey, I know it’s late, but I want in too!! Maybe this will help jump start me into getting back into reading for fun again! And my webpage is just one part of my site that will be fully up in a couple weeks.
I’m very late, but I would like to join too!
Hi Crystal, I just wanted to let you know my link has changed. It’s now: http://lazily.org/28-books-in-2008/
I’m totally late on this, but I’ve already read 4 books this year and I’m on my 5th. I’ll be reading a lot this summer, so I’m sure I’ll catch up and meet the challenge by the end of the year.
My library/currently-reading page is http://haecceity.nu/library
